Fuel Filter Replacement
Fuel Filter Replacement is an overlooked aspect of a service. Modern common rail diesel service intervals even exclude the mechanical basics of fuel filter replacement.
The outcome is vehicles that are just out of warranty coming to us for a service. The customer is experiencing lack of power and hesitations. The top image is of a 200 series Landcruiser. The owner tows a large van. Yesterday the 200 series was booked in for a fuel filter, secondary fuel filter upgrade and ECU tune for towing.
To the owners’ knowledge, the fuel filter had never been replaced and he was shocked to see the outcome.
The mazda above is owned by our friend Miss JAC Photography. The vehicle has been serviced by the team for the past few years. Recently due to life and Miss JACs personal situation, her car was out by a few months overdue for its service. JAC did say she felt the vehicle was underpowered more than usual.
Fuel Filter Replacement Fuel From Old Filter
Fuel from the old filter while not to the extent of some is still full of contaminants. Once Miss JAC drove the car again she easily determined she would not leave a service interval relapse again.
A quick google search gave me a price for a 200 Series Landcruiser as follows.
Prices have risen by $1500 as a result of the upgrade, starting from $78,990 for the five-seater turbodiesel GX.
The price yesterday for a new replacement fuel filter was $46. A base model investment setting you back at $80k the filter seems like a no brain service interval check.
Facebook screenshot below shows you the customers frustration with the mechanic trade when i shared the filter image with our social network.
TJs is right on the money getting a simple filter replacement is getting harder to find a mechanic that values this base level of service. Customers being charged for items that are not even installed on the vehicle. For the best outcome for your vehicle, we recommend regular servicing and components such as secondary fuel filters, catch cans and other elements such as diff breathers or intercoolers. All when needed in the correct application.
