Power Curve Automotive’s 79 Series ECU Tune Transformation

At Power Curve Automotive in Burnside, Nambour 4560, we’re dedicated to unlocking the full potential of your vehicle. Recently, we had the opportunity to work on a particularly challenging project involving an ECU tune and turbo rectification for a customer’s car. This blog will take you through the journey of diagnosing and rectifying issues, highlighting the importance of meticulous attention to detail and expert craftsmanship in achieving optimal performance.

Diagnosis: Identifying the Issues

The journey began when the vehicle was brought to us, exhibiting symptoms of sluggishness and excessive soot production. Upon conducting a thorough assessment, we uncovered several key issues:

  1. Low Boost and Rich Air-Fuel Ratios: During a dyno run, we observed minimal boost levels, resulting in overly rich air-fuel ratios. This indicated a problem with the turbocharger system, inhibiting the engine’s performance.

  2. Turbo Actuator Misalignment: Further inspection revealed that the turbo actuator had been improperly adjusted, causing it to sit at an angle and obstructing proper turbo operation. Additionally, two mounting bolts were missing, exacerbating the issue.

  3. Turbo Map Filter Deletion: The turbo map filter had been removed, potentially allowing contaminants to enter the turbocharger system. We recommended replacing the filter to safeguard the turbo’s integrity.

Rectification: Precision and Expertise

With a clear understanding of the issues at hand, we proceeded with the necessary rectification steps:

  1. Turbo Removal and Adjustment: The turbocharger was meticulously removed from the vehicle, and the actuator rod was readjusted to its correct position. Missing mounting bolts were replaced, ensuring proper alignment and function.

  2. Turbo Inspection and Reinstallation: A comprehensive inspection of the turbocharger was conducted to assess any alterations or damage. With the actuator properly adjusted and missing components replaced, the turbo was reinstalled with precision and care.

  3. Standard File Verification: To ensure that the vehicle’s issues were solely related to the tune, we uploaded a standard ECU file for testing. This step confirmed that the turbocharger could perform as expected under normal conditions.

CUSTOM ECU TUNE

With the turbocharger issues addressed, we proceeded to carry out a custom ECU tune tailored to the vehicle’s specifications. This involved optimising boost levels and fuel delivery to achieve optimal performance and efficiency.

Final Touches and Testing

  1. Map Filter Replacement: As part of our commitment to quality, we fitted a new map filter to protect the turbocharger system from contaminants.

  2. Vacuum Line Replacement: To ensure proper vacuum operation, we replaced any worn or damaged vacuum lines, enhancing overall system reliability.

  3. Comprehensive Testing: The vehicle underwent rigorous test-driving and dyno testing to verify its performance and functionality. With all checks completed and satisfactory results obtained, the vehicle was deemed ready for the road.
